All Those Names

The Fair Folk were creatures of the Stories told about them. Old stories, new stories, my stories other's stories. Consequently, they accumulated more than a few names and titles over the centuries.

For example, Puck was sometimes called the Sower of Discord, the Harbinger of Chaos, hobgoblin imp, little goat, and pooka. They're all still Puck, but Puck took many forms and names.

The People of The World were afraid to call out the name of one of the Fair Folk unless they were desperate. They didn't want to attract their attention. One of the Fair Folk turning their full attention on one of The People could turn out rather bad for them. Instead, they would pick some feature of them and use it as a reference point. Grandfather's large and rolling presence led to such comparisons as The Thunder. His sister, Tempest, was the Harsh Lightning to compliment his Thunder. The Twins of the Sky were the Crown Prince of the Heavens and the Dark Lady of the Darkened Skies.

This is how their many titles came to be.
